Eight of the top 10 models were different variations of Apple's music player;
the other two came from SanDisk, according to research, which tracked sales from Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, Staples and RadioShack.
Because of Apple's continued dominance of the
hard-drive based audio player market, Microsoft, at 12 percent of sales in December, actually captured a decent slice. Interestingly, the CNET report fails to mention Apple's overall percentage of
holiday sales, though it's been estimated that Apple controls nearly 90 percent of the digital music player market.
Two large retailers are conspicuous by their absence from the Current Analysis data: Wal-Mart and Apple's own retail stores.
