The series producers integrated an 80s-era music video into an episode as a device to reveal the embarrassing past of a key character. Viewers were directed to a MySpace page where they could watch the entire video, learn more about the artist and sign up as friends.
According to Zap2it, which presented the award to 20th, the video was streamed nearly 300,000 times in the week following its on-air mention, also featured extensively on sharing sites, TV sites, and blogs. And when the next episode aired, "How I Met Your Mother" became CBS' number one show with viewers under 35.
