Move Over "Survivor"

The NBC network has agreed to pay nearly $40 million for the rights to "Destination Mir," a reality series cooked-up by Mark Burnett, the inventor of "Survivor." The series will launch an everyday American into space to the Russian space station Mir, according to Tuesday's Daily Variety. For 13 to 15 episodes, the series would follow a group of would-be cosmonauts from space camp to launch pad. The last episode culminating in a live broadcast in which a winner is picked and sent into space. The series has not been scheduled yet. Although, NBC networks entertainment president, Garth Ancier, was quoted in Daily Variety as saying that the network aims to premier the series in fall 2001, with the actual launch into space taking place by early 2002.
