Fox Business, Bloomberg To Gain Ground

  • , Wednesday, March 25, 2009 10 AM
In the aftermath of CNBC's recent image calamity via Jon Stewart, rivals Fox Business Network and Bloomberg Television could win by capitalizing on CNBC's misery. With about 355,000 total viewers, CNBC looks like an appealing target for investors who are depressed and furious. Fair or not, the network suddenly represents everything that is evil about capitalism.

The priority for Fox Business and Bloomberg is to become the anti-CNBC and strengthen their own identities. Fox Business is well-suited to serve the interests of the outsider of the stock market, the "little guy." Its commitment to impressing Main Street underlays its weekend show "Your Questions, Your Money." In addition, Fox Business reporters and anchors don't shout or bicker to be heard, in contrast to the folks at CNBC.

Bloomberg TV has always reflected the style of Bloomberg News. Its calling card is a straightforward, no-frills approach to the day's news. Experts say that will change as it tries to ratchet up its creative level. Bloomberg TV has one of the biggest and most professional reporting operations anywhere. Bloomberg can score by finding a way to jazz up its broadcasts while maintaining its journalistic integrity.
