Democrats Converge On Detroit For Auto Show

House Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland as well as Michigan's own Rep. John Dingell of Dearborn will visit the North American International Auto Show this week. In particular, they will get tours of General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group exhibits today.

Hoyer was also at the show last year. Other Dems who will tour the show are Michigan Reps. Gary Peters and Sander Levin of Bloomfield Township and Royal Oak, respectively.

The lawmakers are in town in part to show their support for the Obama administration's fiscal assistance to the domestic industry last year (although Ford opted out of that). "The message is that it was absolutely critical to have a domestic auto industry and the steps that were taken have vindicated the need for action," said Levin.
