theSkimm Automates NFL Calendar On Mobile

theSkimm introduced NFL games to its Skimm Ahead calendar and mobile application on Wednesday, just in time for the first game of the regular NFL season on Thursday.

In a rematch of Super Bowl 50, the Denver Broncos, the defending champions, will take on the Carolina Panthers Thursday evening to kick off the NFL season. Skimm Ahead users will now view this event on their calendars, as well as any important upcoming games hand-picked by theSkimm.

Originally launched in 2012 by roommates Danielle Weisberg and Carly Zakin, theSkimm is a daily email newsletter that delivers easily digestible snapshots of the news every morning. In the four years since launch, theSkimm has gained more than 3.5 million subscribers.

The new paid mobile iOS application that automatically adds calendar events to a subscriber’s iPhone launched in April. It syncs with a user’s iPhone calendar to create an ongoing list of upcoming holidays and events that theSkimm deems significant to readers.

Skimm Ahead’s curated calendar will not be an encyclopedic addition of all NFL teams and games, but instead will pinpoint the biggest games and “most talked about ones that readers should know about,” a company representative revealed.

In addition to the teams playing and kickoff time, Skimm Ahead will also reveal which players readers should be watching and why.

This is the second curated calendar update to be added to Skimm Ahead since launch. In August, the company also released an Olympics calendar of upcoming athletic competitions.

To get the NFL calendar, users must update the Skimm Ahead application and then tap the “Get the NFL Calendar” link at the top of the “Today” home page. In coordination with the launch, theSkimm will also be giving away football-themed prizes for any user who downloads the calendar or starts a 30-day free trial of Skimm Ahead.
