Uber Collects Location Data Even When Passenger Has Exited Car

Uber collects user location data even when the app is running in the background and uses this data to personalize the customer's experience including in emails. From the time a user orders a car until five minutes after drop off, the ridesharing firm tracks where the user is whether or not the app is opened or closed. "We do this to improve pickups, drop-offs, customer service, and to enhance safety," Uber explains on its website. Users can opt out but it will require more input on their end when ordering cars.
