Google to Change Scanning Policy as Part of Legal Settlement

Google has tentatively agreed to change the way it collects Gmail data, as part of a proposed settlement for a case. If approved, Google will stop collecting data that can be used for advertising before the email is accessible the inbox. Google came up with the suggestion as part of the Matera vs. Google case which began in September 2015. In the class action suit, plaintiffs alleged that email scanning violated California and federal privacy law.
