Twitter has been evicted from its office in Boulder, Colorado. The social messaging network owned by Elon Musk owes three months' rent, court documents show.

On Tuesday, a judge ordered a sheriff to return possession of Twitter's office to the landlord.

Court documents show that the Chicago-based landlord who owns the Twitter office in Boulder has been drawing rent payments from a $968,000 letter of credit handed over in February 2020.

The money ran out in March of this year. Twitter has not paid the landlord since.

The landlord brought the issue to court in May. At the end of the month, a judge issued an order calling on the sheriff to assist in evicting Twitter before the end of July.

Twitter's Boulder offices once had more than 300 employees -- a number that has been almost halved since Musk's takeover in October, which resulted in 87 terminations and 38 voluntary resignations, according to a notice to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment in November.

In addition to the eviction lawsuit, Boulder's Avalanche Commercial Cleaning sued Twitter in the same court last month, asking for $93,500 for alleged unpaid invoices.
