The beat may not go on. Classical music critics have seen their jobs nixed or revamped at newspapers in Atlanta and Minneapolis. At New York magazine, Peter G. Davis, a respected critic, was pushed out after 26 years. For people who run opera houses and orchestras, the news is particularly bad--and they have made their displeasure known to local critics.
