Live Earth Buried By Criticism, Low Ratings

Looking for that cool new broadcast network summer show?

A music concert might seem to fit the bill. But NBC's "Live Earth" concert on Saturday--with names such as Madonna, Shakira, Sting, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and more--wasn't it.

The three-hour show only managed a Nielsen preliminary 0.9 rating among 18-49 viewers, which gave NBC a fourth-place finish. The concert celebrating green environment efforts was given a black mark by critics--due to the trash, heavy car traffic, and other non-green byproducts of the concert.

Fox landed in first place on Saturday night among 18-49s with a 1.5 rating/6 share. ABC and CBS tied for second with a 1.1/4; NBC was next at 0.9/3; then Univision, fifth at 0.7/3.

Fox also took over on Sunday night with a rerun of its comedies. It had a 2.2 rating/7 share. CBS was at a 1.7/5; NBC landed with a 1.4/4; ABC was just behind with a 1.3/4; Univision came in at 1.1/3; and CW, a 0.5/2.

Fox's big hour was at 9 p.m., with a 3.2 rating for two "Family Guy" reruns. CBS' best came from a 2.1 rating for "Big Brother" at 8 p.m. ABC had a 1.7 for a repeat of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" at 8 p.m.

NBC had a 1.9 for a repeat of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" at 10 p.m. Between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., Univision earned a 1.3 for a Copa America soccer game between Argentina and Peru. The CW had a 0.4 rating for repeats of "7th Heaven" and "Supernatural."
