Per the firm, combined incentives spending for domestic manufacturers averaged $3,268 per vehicle sold in July 2007--up from $3,155 in June 2007. European spend was $3,292 per vehicle sold, the Japanese increased incentives spending by $33, to $1,536 per vehicle sold, and Korean automakers increased incentives spending by $77, to $1,681 per vehicle sold.
The company says Chrysler, Ford and General Motors spent 65% of the total--or $2.25 billion--with Japanese manufacturers spending $798 million, or 23%; European makes spent 8.6% and Korean companies 3.4%.
Edmunds says Japanese makes had a big increase in incentive spend last month. By vehicle segment, large trucks had the highest average incentives, $4,017 per vehicle sold, followed by large SUVs at $3,847. Compact cars had the lowest average incentives per vehicle sold, at $1,068.
