New Hitwise data shows that search was responsible for driving more than a quarter of all traffic to sites in the Travel, Health and Medical, Shopping and Classifieds categories in
February.
Search accounted for almost 44% of all traffic to sites in the Health and Medical category--down slightly from the same time period last year. Meanwhile, Travel sites
garnered nearly a third of all their traffic from search engines--up 9% year-over-year. And just about 25% of all traffic to Shopping and Classified sites came from search in February--remaining
relatively flat year-over-year.
New York-based Hitwise also found that Google has increasingly become a major source of traffic to sites in the Travel, Sports and Business and Finance verticals.
Business and Finance sites in particular saw a major surge (23%) in the amount of traffic driven to them by Google. Meanwhile, Travel and Sports sites followed closely behind, each with a 19% increase
in their share of traffic from Google.
