One Man's Ugly Is Another Chap's Wonky ...

... is another editor's misshapen. Call them what you will, they are perfectly edible veggies that have heretofore been banned for sale in the European Union simply because they don't conform to some bureaucrat's vision of beauty. But score one for the rights of ungainly carrots and too-crooked crookneck squash.

"EU bends rules on misshapen vegetables," CNN/Europe says. The BBC asks, "Will we eat wonky fruit and veg?" The Independent declares, "Ugly fruit and veg make a comeback."

As usual, we can blame the brainwashers. "People have been brainwashed into believing everything has to be a uniform size," says Geoff Stokes, secretary of the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners. "It has always struck me as more to do with the supermarkets wanting to package things easier, if everything is the same shape and the same size."
