Ask.com Relies On Symantec To Secure Web Traffic

  • February 4, 2009
Search engine Ask.com and security applications provider Symantec have developed a product dubbed Safe Search.

The product shows a site rating before people visit the Web page when searches are conducted from their Norton toolbar. The site ratings are presented on a custom search results page.

The multiyear partnership connects Ask.com to Symantec's millions of customers who rely on Norton Internet Security applications to detect sites laced with malware, worms and other malicious computer programs.

Safe Search--with search powered by Ask.com, with Norton Safe Web as part of the Norton 360 version 3.0--became available Tuesday. Norton Safe Web is a Web site rating service introduced in beta by Symantec in August 2008.--Laurie Sullivan
