Western Europe, Asia Drive Mobile Ad Growth In December

  • February 13, 2009
Mobile ad impressions worldwide increased 8% in December to 6.8 billion, according to AdMob's latest mobile metrics report.

The mobile ad network cites double-digit growth in Europe and Asia for driving the surge. Mobile ad traffic in Western Europe increased 132% in the last year to 550 million impressions, with the iPhone and Nokia devices each generating just over 20% of impressions.

Earlier this month, AdMob teamed up with Amsterdam-based mobile ad company MADS to expand its presence in the European market and reach more high-end publishers. MADS handles 300 million ads a month, mainly in Europe.

The January AdMob report also spotlights mobile Internet use via WiFi networks in the U.S. California led the way with 18% of usage, followed by New York with 14%, and Texas with 8%. Regionally, the West and Northeast were bigger WiFi users by population than the South and Midwest. Overall, monthly mobile ad impressions fell by 2% in the U.S. in December.--Mark Walsh
