Sony Computer Entertainment has lowered the suggested retail price on its PlayStation 2 system to $99.99, beginning today.

Despite the widespread availability and acceptance of its next-generation PlayStation 3, the nine-year-old PlayStation 2 game system still has some appeal to families and casual gamers, according to the company.

According to Sony, the PlayStation 2 has sold more than 136 million units worldwide. The company said it will continue to support the system with new games for people looking for social entertainment experiences.--Aaron Baar
