Sugar Acquires MyPerfectSale To Sweeten Ecommerce Offerings


Online publisher Sugar Inc. on Friday announced the acquisition of shopping service MyPerfectSale.

San Francisco-based MyPerfectSale claims to connect over half a million registered members to sales for high-end designer fashions, and send over twelve million customized email sale alerts per month.

MyPerfectSale also operates, a shopping service that helps users weed through department stores and smaller retailers for specific products.

Per the acquisition, Sugar plans to take MyPerfectSale's services global -- at least in markets where Sugar currently operates, including the UK, Japan, France, Germany and Australia.

"MyPerfectSale will now be able to leverage ShopStyle's network to increase its reach and differentiation in this fast-growing market," Andy Moss, President of Sugar Inc.'s ShopStyle, said of the deal.



Sugar, Inc. officially launched in April 2006, a year after Lisa Sugar, editor in chief and Brian Sugar's wife, began a celebrity gossip blog named PopSugar.

Presently, the majority of Sugar Inc.'s revenue still comes from advertising, while the rest is from commissions and revenue-sharing from ShopStyle, the e-commerce site it acquired in late 2007.

MyPerfectSale will be maintained as a separate brand, while becoming a part of Sugar's ShopStyle network of shopping sites. Meanwhile, MyPerfectSale's eight employees are expected to join Sugar Inc.

In an effort to more intimately connect female consumers with brands, Sugar recently launched a social shopping game named Retail Therapy. The game -- which debuted with a number of retail brands, including Banana Republic, Barneys New York, and Diane von Furstenberg -- encourages players to merchandise and design their own fashion boutiques, and dress their characters in popular styles and brands.
