NPD: Prestige Beauty Sales Up 7% Last Year

NPD Group says that sales of prestige beauty products rose 7% in dollar sales last year, with the biggest gains coming in skincare (up 10%), followed by makeup (7%) and fragrance (5%.) Prestige brands, those sold primarily in department stores, fared better than mass brands, which gained 3% in dollar sales. Mass makeup products grew 5% and skincare 3%, while sales of lower-end fragrances declined 4%.
