Air Play: Clear Channel, Black River Team For Revenue-Sharing Deal

Clear Channel Media and Entertainment and Black River Entertainment, an independent label, have teamed for a royalty agreement. The new deal allows Black River's artists to share in revenue for airplay on Clear Channel's broadcast and digital radio streams.

This includes Clear Channel’s 850 AM/FM stations serving 150 markets, as well as the iHeartRadio digital radio platform.

Black River Entertainment is known for its country music artists, such as Glen Templetom and The John King Band.  Craig Morgan has had 11 top 20 hits, while platinum-selling singer-songwriter Kellie Pickler has had five top 20 singles.

Black River Entertainment is comprised of Black River Records, Black River Publishing and Black River Management. The company also owns two legendary Nashville studios: Sound Stage and Ronnie’s Place.

Clear Channel CEO Bob Pittman stated the arrangement with Black River helped "lead the way to a sustainable digital music industry that benefits everyone -- artists, fans, record labels and broadcasters.”

The revenue-sharing agreement is the second for Clear Channel, which has a similar arrangement with Warner Music. It also has market deals with Big Machine Label Group and Glassnote, among others.

Clear Channel Media has 243 million listeners in the U.S., serving 150 markets.
