'Golf Magazine' Launches Fix Finder Video App

With the pro golf season underway, golf enthusiast publishers are unveiling a flurry of features and products timed to coincide with the broader buzz. In the latest example, with The Masters kicking off on April 6, this week Time Inc.’s Golf magazine launched a new free video app offering personalized golf instruction called the “Golf Fix Finder.”

The Golf Fix Finder app for iOS and Android features over 140 short-form, interactive mobile videos with instruction provided by Golf magazine’s official Top 100 Hundred Teachers in America. They include respected figures like Claude Harmon II, Mark Blackburn and Kellie Stenzel, who lead the user through concise demonstrations of lessons and drills.

Users can choose videos from eight different categories focusing on specific topics, like driving, chipping and bunkers, and a special diagnostic function helps users figure out where their weak spots are.

Users can organize their lesson library by “favoriting” relevant content, which can then be saved and viewed offline later. The app also offers a “Golf 101” glossary to help beginners grasp the game’s obscure terminology. At launch, the Golf Fix Finder app is sponsored by Adidas, Geico, and Srixon.

Like other enthusiast publications, Golf is betting big on video in general. The launch of the Fix Finder comes not long after Golf magazine debuted a new weekly digital show, “Golf Live.” This week, the publisher will also host daily coverage of the Masters on Golf.com.

It’s not just enthusiast publications tapping into gulf buzz. Last week, Bon Appétit announced a partnership with Chase Sapphire Preferred and the PGA of America for a new cross-promotional campaign, called “Champions of the Course.” Top players and chefs share tips, advice and some quirky personal rituals.
