To celebrate this week’s Democratic National Convention, the Philadelphia-based Red Tettemer O’Connell + Partners (RTO+P) changed its name “Blue Tettemer O’Connell + Partners” as a way to show its support for the Democrats taking over its town.
As part of its makeover, BTO+P has changed the branding of the website and social channels, including Facebook and Instagram. The office receptionist is even answering the phone differently.
This idea is more about celebrating its city than showing its allegiance to any political party, says agency president and chief creative officer Steve Red.
"Good advertising is about having a point of view and I think our clients will see the fun in it. And though a lot of us at the agency are Blues a few of us are Reds and we're fine with them sheepishly wearing their 'Make America Great Again' hats."
Thus far, the main feedback has been making people smile, he says.
There are some limits to this changeover, however. Red says he is keeping his last name.
