Meta Reportedly Partnering With LG On Future Quest Pro Headset

Meta may be partnering with LG Electronics to build and deliver future virtual-reality headsets, including a successor to the Quest Pro, in hopes of outperforming Apple's highly anticipated Vision Pro headset slated for 2024, according to a Korean news outlet.

In November, SBS Biz reported that “dozens” of Meta executives had been holding private meetings in South Korea with Samsung and LG's display divisions. Now, it has been said that LG will supply Meta with LG Display technology, LG Energy batteries, and other components from LG Innotek, the company's South Korean affiliate.

The first product coming out of the supposed partnership is believed to be a next-generation Quest Pro headset, planned to launch 2025 at a price of about $2,000.

Apple's upcoming VR headset, the Vision Pro, is priced at $3,500. It has gained traction in the media due to its high price and potential groundbreaking technology, including high-resolution Sony OLED microdisplays and realistic “Persona” avatars.

The price of Meta's future Quest Pro headset with LG may help it compete with Apple's upcoming device, especially since the Vision Pro output may be limited due to ongoing reports of production challenges.

However, with Samsung and Google planning to release their high-end VR headset for around $2,000 as well, competition will still be high.
