Upfront: CW Trims to Five Nights A Week, Adds Three New Shows

CW's cast of Gossip Girl After a tough season, the CW will launch three new shows--two dramas and a reality show--all focused on its young female demographic in its new five-night-a-week shorter prime-time schedule.

The highest-profile effort comes from a spinoff of one of the original young female-skewing shows of the 1990s--"Beverly Hills 90210"--which will anchor Tuesdays at 8 p.m.

The new "90210" will focus on new characters. Old characters from the original will also be back, such as Jennie Garth reprising her role as Kelly Taylor, who is now the high school guidance counselor. Garth will appear occasionally, and may also be joined by Tori Spelling, who played Donna Martin on the original series.

Also new to CW will be "Surviving the Filthy Rich," which follows "90210" at 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Based on a novel of a similar name ("How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls"), it is the story of a bright, up-and-coming fashion editor who loses her job, only to be relocated to Palm Beach, Fla., where she is installed as the tutor of two orphaned teenage girls.

New reality series "Stylista" also explores the fashion world in the offices of a real-life magazine, Elle. Eleven aspiring fashion experts compete for an editorial job with Elle magazine in this show, which runs at 9 p.m. on Wednesday and follows "America's Next Top Model."

With wrestling programming WWE's "Smackdown" now on MyNetworkTV, the CW will run on Fridays: "Everybody Hates Chris" at 8 p.m; "The Game" at 8:30 p.m; and an encore presentation of "America's Next Top Model" at 9 p.m.

Mondays will remain the same with "Gossip Girl" and "One Tree Hill." Thursdays will do likewise with "Smallville" and "Supernatural."

Last year's highly respected comedy "Aliens in America" will not be back--as well as Sunday night family drama, "Life is Wild." "Reaper" will return mid-season.

Sunday night will be completely revamped as CW sells off its three-hour night in a production agreement with TV production entity Media Rights Capital, which is expected to announce two comedies and two dramas next week.
