'Obama' Among Top Mobile Searches

  • September 4, 2008
"Barack Obama" was the second most searched term Index after "Movies/Movie Listings" on the mobile Web during the second quarter, according to the Crisp Wireless. The index-tracking activity across Crisp Wireless' network of 200 mobile sites-also found that mobile Web use was up nearly 30% in the quarter.

At the same time, the percentage of traffic driven by carrier Web portals, or "decks" continues to fall as traffic from mobile search increases. Search engines are driving 9.5% of overall mobile Web traffic, a 25.8% increase over the first quarter.

For sites that have a presence on the major carrier decks, 46% of their traffic is coming from the carrier sites, down from 53.4% in the first quarter. Sites in the Crisp mobile network include those of Time Mobile, NBC Sports, Gannett and A&E Television Networks.--Mark Walsh
