Apple helped spark the portable music revolution with its ground-breaking iPOD, once limited to Mac users and now available to the rest of us Windows users. Now it's made another bold move, announcing at the Macworld expo yesterday that it would offer a cut-rate iPod.

When the Recording Industry Association of America threatened and then filed lawsuits against alleged music pirates, some of the more cynical observers said that the action was too little, too late and ham-handed.

Maybe the Can-Spam law is going to do something after all.
