• Just An Online Minute... What Happened When The Music Stopped At IAB Mobile?
I'll bet you're wondering, "Wait! Kelly! What happened in the afternoon portion of IAB Mobile? " I know, I know, I sort of put a break in there. But really, I think you're a lot like me, and there is only so much conference coverage I can read - which is why I broke it up with the delicious Flatiron Chef's piece. And now. The moment you've all been waiting for... when Dancing Dufon left the stage, who was there to pick up the pieces?
  • Just An Online Minute... Keeping Madison Square Park Beautiful With Flatiron Chefs
Back in the day, when I was hunting for a new job and my lunch consisted of Lean Pockets, Bud Light, and craigslist, I could be found muttering, sometimes covered in sweat due to no air conditioning combined with living on the 5th floor, "I want to write about NYC for NYC." Last night I found myself wandering around my favorite park, getting pebbles in my sandals, sampling some of the best food the Flatiron area has to offer. AND, depending on what you qualify as celebrity, I even had two celeb sightings!
  • Just An Online Minute... The People Pitch To PepsiCo At Brandhackers
I never go to Dewey's Flatiron by choice. The last time I went there, a businessman offered to pretend his wife didn't exist. And the floor smelled like the underside of the Staten Island ferry. Last night I had to go if I wanted to observe the Brandhackers SMAC (Social Media Ad Council) "Pitch Pepsi" Meetup Happy Hour. It was at Dewey's that I discovered Tyler Hoffman (CFO of Gather)'s favorite Muppets are the old hecklers in the balcony -- and that Deep Focus's Vice President, Publicity,Christian Borges, likes a Gatorade to mute his hangover. Oh right, and people pitched …
  • Just An Online Minute... Live Action Apps And Synchronized Claps At IAB Mobile
I love mobile nerdery. I do. Of all emerging (yes, it's still emerging) channels of consumer engagement, this one is occupied by some of the best nerds out there. And they embrace it. But although they're "beyond zealotry," the industry is still one of "almost there" with metrics and "almost there" with regard to synchronized clapping.
  • Just An Online Minute... Coca-Cola Great Tastes Of Summer Is PEOPLE!
As a tourist or out-of-towner, what do you think of when someone says NYC? Probably hotdogs, Broadway, the Naked Cowboy, Donald Trump, crowds, bright lights, dirt, commerce, and delicious, overpriced foods. As an NYCer... what do you think of? Probably irksome slow walkers, too close-for-comfort stander-byers, overpriced dining, crowded bars, live music around every corner, squirrels, and shopping you can no longer afford. Well then, it's almost like NYC & Company (nycgo.com)Coke -Cola, American Express and Jet Blue really had their earholes to the streets because the official restaurant week kickoff party at the shops at the Time Warner Center …
  • Just An Online Minute... Media in Crisis: Are We The Cause Or The Effect?
After last night's book party for Chris Anderson's book "Free," I settled down in front of the TV, which coincidentally is a Samsung, pulled the boy's laptop close to me and refreshed myself on what route to The Samsung Experience in the Time Warner Center I'd be taking (thank you hopstop). I cringed as I set my alarm for 6:18 a.m. - intending to give myself enough time for breakfast even though the Gotham thing is a breakfast panel. I'm wise to what they mean by breakfast: tiny dry cookie things and mini croissants. I'm about as much a morning …
  • Just An Online Minute... Something's Fishy At Chris Anderson's "FREE" Party
I'm back! I feel like it's been forever since we've gotten together. Over a week is definitely close to forever in online media years, so let's get to it. As I'm writing this, I am also grinning out the window at what has to be one of the most beautiful days NYC has seen yet. The air in the shade is fresh and as cool as a squirrel's belly, while the sun on the bright side of the street warms the skin gently, not August angrily. You'd never know by the smiling faces of oblivious tourists and the half-naked homeless …
  • Just An Online Minute... Back From The Beach Like Annette Funicello
Hot in the city! Hot in the city to.. day. Today! People, it's hot out there on the grimy (yes grimy, I think I walked by about eight piles of garbage, saw 10 people litter, and watched about four people nodding out in Union Square Park)streets of this fine City of New York. You can thank me later for bringing the sun back with me from the beach, which is where I was all last week. And you don't have to ask twice -- I actually did miss you.
  • Just An Online Minute... Designing Women Like Delta Burke With NYWIFT
I am Twittered out. I don't want to hear or type tweet, twit, tweeter, twitter, twittersphere, twiteral (thanks jim jones), twanker, twestival, tw...any of it! For... at least a week! This is why it was easy for me to re-energize myself after leaving the 140 Characters Conference on Wednesday night and head directly to the Clearview Chelsea Cinema for The New York Women in Film And Television's (NYWIFT) gala.
  • Just An Online Minute... No More 140 24/7 365, Kthnx
Throw your laptops down and run naked and chanting through the streets! This is my final posting about the 140 Characters Conference! Yesterday I watched the hashtag stream to see how far off schedule day two was, while also keeping an eye on the upload status of the video I took with my Flip cam. Snail's pace + agitation = me ranting and then heading off to the show sans laptop. It was actually quite freeing not to have that lap warmer tugging at my un-muscled shoulder all afternoon. And here's all she wrote...
