After the Masters became the first golf tournament offered in 3D in April, the third dimension continues this week at the PGA Championship. Time Warner Cable said it would make part of the major tournament available to some of its customers with new 3D sets.

Turner Sports, which is airing the tournament on TNT, will produce a 3D feed highlighting the 12th and 17th holes on Thursday and Friday, with announcers Vince Cellini and former PGA winner Rich Beem. Eight cameras will be deployed.

"Introducing 3D coverage to this crown jewel event allows us another opportunity to better serve our audience and add to our multitude of platforms," stated Lenny Daniels, Turner Sports EVP and COO.

The two holes where coverage will focus are both Par-3s.

Other cable, satellite and telco TV operators are likely to join Time Warner Cable in offering such viewing.

So far, Turner Sports will make the 3D coverage available to Bright House Networks, Cablevision, Comcast, Cox, and DirecTV as well as Time Warner Cable. Deal terms were not disclosed. David Proper, vice president of programming for Time Warner Cable, stated that the operator "look(s) forward to presenting more 3D content."
