Fujifilms Ad For 3D Camera Goes To The Movies

With three out of four households already in possession of a digital camera, Fujifilm has come up with a way to sell more: make it 3D. That makes it appealing even to those who already have a 2D device and want a new photo experience. And, for the first time, the company will advertise in cinemas from coast to coast.

The commercial features young men looking at a friend's photos from a trip to New York. They are transported to the city streets, where gushing water from a hydrant is suspended like ice crystals. When one of them asks if the camera can also make movies, the water "unfreezes" and splashes over them.

"City Trip" began appearing in movie theaters last month with "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1." It will run immediately before the feature, through Dec. 30, on showings of "The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader," "Tron," "Megamind," "Tangled," and "Yogi Bear."

Digital cameras are a favorite gift -- nearly 21 million were bought last year. My elder daughter says she's been asking for one for three years. This year (shh!), she's getting one.
