While General Motors, Ford and Chrysler showed fuel-efficient cars at the auto show their profits are still weighted to trucks and SUVs. One reason the former Big Three saw sales increase last year was because gasoline prices dropped, but when gas topped out above $4 per gallon two years ago sales of bigger vehicles plummeted. Since late August, nationwide gasoline prices have risen 15% to $3.09 for regular. The CEO's of Detroit automakers say they see prices staying above where they are now and adjusting their marketing plans accordingly.
