Internet At 294 Million Domain Names

Verisign, acquired by Symantec in 2010 and known for its Internet security technology, said Wednesday that the Internet grew to 294 million domain names in the first quarter of 2015. About six million domain names were added to the Internet between January and March of this year. The .com and .net to level domain names in aggregate grew to a combined total of approximately 133.0 million .com and .net domain names in the domain name base. Overall, Verisign processed 8.7 million new domain name registrations for .com and .net, as compared to 8.6 million domain names for the same period in 2014.
