Streaming digital media has a high return on investment, especially when the company streaming pays very little to artists and rights holders. In a letter to artists obtained by the
Wall Street
Journal on Friday, Apple Music told artists it pays a penny per stream, It turns out that Apple’s penny-per-stream is roughly double what Spotify pays to music-rights holders per
stream. Spotify pays an average of about one-third to one-half penny per stream.
