General Motors Hires CVS Health's Norm De Greve As CMO

CVS Health’s Norm de Greve is joining General Motors as its top marketer effective July 31.

De Greve, 54, takes over as senior vice president and chief marketing officer, replacing Deborah Wahl who retired from the automaker in March. He will report to GM President Mark Reuss.

De Greve has served as chief marketing officer at CVS Health since 2015.

While at CVS Health, the longtime marketing executive helped transform the company from America’s corner drug store to a major health care company, moving it to sixth place on the Fortune 500.

He gained recognition for taking a stand in 2018 against photoshopping models in CVS Health’s marketing.

"We are a healthcare company with beauty inside — and this is a health issue,” de Greve told Authority Magazine at the time. “As a purpose-led, customer-led company, we saw an opportunity to use our nearly 8,000 stores and presence in communities all around the country to inspire change.”

Prior to joining CVS, de Greve worked at digital marketing firm Digitas in a variety of positions from 2001-2014, including serving as president of the Boston and Detroit offices, where he spent multiple years working to advance digital marketing for GM.

He spent the first decade of his career in investment management and management consulting.

“Norm is an experienced marketing leader with a proven track record of building brands and supporting business growth in a digital world,” Reuss says in a statement.  “His broad background, including time spent at Digitas working with GM, is the perfect fit as we continue our technology-driven transformation.”

De Greve has been recognized by Fast Company as one of the Most Creative People in Business, by Business Insider as one of the Most Innovative CMOs in The World, and he has also earned an Emmy Award.
