  • Can Brandtech Save Adtech? in MediaDailyNews on 08/23/2016

Adtech is IBM in 1984. Brandtech is Apple. The good news is that these huge advertisers and huge budgets have funded the creation of an incredible system that will totally and finally democratize paid media.

  • The Advantages of Being Completely Lost in Media Magazine on 09/30/2009

Let me start out by saying that I know nothing about media. That's probably not a surprise to people who know me because I am thought of as a "creative" guy. But you might be surprised to learn that I know nothing about creativity. Furthermore, I know nothing about advertising.

  • What's The Price Of Creativity? in Future of Media on 07/23/2009

The crowd sourcing of creative is erupting in popularity and with this eruption several questions are bubbling up as well. The one I keep getting asked is, "Could creativity ever become a commodity?"

  • Why Would Anyone Want To Be An 'Expert'? in Future of Media on 07/22/2009

Yesterday I Tweeted around the idea of the Social Media expert. I thought I'd post it here because it seemed to hit a nerve. My somewhat rhetorical question was: Where did all these new social media experts come from and what justifies the use of the moniker "expert"?

  • Alex Bogusky To Guest Edit 'The Future of Media' in Online Media Daily on 07/21/2009

This September Media magazine will venture once more into the void of the future, and is proud to announce that leading the leap will be Guest Editor Alex Bogusky, lending his creative's take on our industry and what we can expect five, 10 or 50 years from now. "I'm not a media person or a futurist by any stretch," says Bogusky. "My fascination with media has come from a desire to connect and interact with an audience. And any tinkering I have done in media is because over and over I was confronted by the fact that with the best ideas, it was very difficult to separate what was media and what was message." He doesn't leave it at that, of course. "Yeah, the medium is the message. No shit."

  • What's The Price Of Creativity? by Alex Bogusky (Future of Media on 07/23/2009)

I thought this is an interesting article to read within the context of what business could be like if creativity and insight took the place of structure and bean counting. I found it after a friend commented that it would be nice if creativity replaced McKinseyismhttp://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/53/peters.html

I was thinking, we may try to defend this idea of creativity being so special because we make our living at it. But setting that aside, I'd like to live in a world where creativity was the ultimate commodity. NASA did that study with kids and at five years old 95 percent of them were in the highly creative problem solver category. Then by the time they graduated high school only like five percent of the same kids were still highly creative. (May have the numbers wrong here but you get what i'm laying down) We teach creativity out of our kids, but our most natural state is to be highly creative. If the entire population was highly creative I might not be able to get paid to think of ads but I bet life would be a lot of fun. Bring on ubiquitous creativity.

Sallie makes a point about the DM folks finding a new home in social media and i think it's potentially true. Hopefully Twitter will find ways to protect us better than the govenrment protected our home address.
