• IAB UK Appoints New Chief Executive From Within
    Jon Mew has been announced as the successor to Guy Phillipson, who this month stepped down as chief executive of the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB). Mew has been at the IAB since 2008, joining as head of mobile before being promoted to director of mobile and operations. Most recently he has served as chief operating officer, a role he took on in September 2014.

    The Football Association (FA) has confirmed that its eSports tournament "Every Gamer's Adventure" is returning for 2017. The one-day eSports tournament will see Fifa 17 players from across the world compete at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 6 May for the chance to win a VIP experience at The Emirates FA Cup Final three weeks later.
  • Brits Not Impressed By Wealthy Donor Model For Funding Newspaper Regulation
    Newspaper publishers are claiming a victory for self-regulation. In a new survey of 1,632 people surveyed by YouGov, 49% supported the member-funding model used by the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO). Only 4% of those surveyed said they thought a press regulator should be funded by donations from wealthy individuals and trusts, the model used by Impress.

    Carat has confirmed its win of a global remit for media strategy, planning and buying for Standard Chartered Bank. The work will be led out of Singapore and covers more than 60 markets, according to the agency. The win follows a competitive pitch called in June last year. The incumbent was OMD.

The ruling against Ryanair is based on the airline's television ad seen on 5 October, which states "book now from just GBP19.99. Ryanair. Low fares. Made simple."
  • Max Mosley Claims Papers Paying Both Sides' Legal Fees In Libel Action is 'Fair'
    Proposals that could see newspapers forced to pay their opponents' legal costs even if they win in court are "eminently fair," according to Max Mosley. The Government is currently consulting on Section 40 of the Crime and Courts Act 2013, which could see newspapers not signed up to an officially recognised regulator paying the legal costs of both sides in libel actions.

  • ASA Rules City Airport Is The Only Airport In London
    The ASA has given the green light to a radio ad for London City Airport, which claims that it is "the only airport actually in the city of London." The ad, created by Bygraves Bushell Valladares & Sheldon heard last June on radio station, read: "Fly with British Airways or Flybe from Edinburgh, or from Glasgow with British Airways, to the only airport actually located in the city of London."

    A third of consumers now choose to buy brands based on their social and environmental impact, according to new research by Unilever. The FMCG giant questioned 20,000 adults across five countries about how sustainability impacts their purchasing choices. It then backed up their claims using information on real purchasing decisions.
