Freer Upped To President/COO Fox Networks Group

Randy Freer is transitioning into a new role: president/COO of Fox Networks Group, which includes Fox Sports, Fox Broadcasting, FX, NatGeo Channels and Fox International.

In 2011, he was named co-president and COO of Fox Sports Media Group, responsible for business ops and media rights acquisitions. Before that, Freer was president of Fox Sports Networks, a regional sports network group.

Eric Shanks, who was co-president of Fox Sports with Freer, becomes president and COO. Both execs report to chairman/CEO Peter Rice.

For the past year, Freer -- named one of the most influential people in the sports business by Businessweek -- led negotiations with Pac-12, Big 12, Big Ten and C-USA to secure long-term deals. He retains oversight of FSN, which has partnerships with all major sports teams.

A longtime Fox veteran, he joined the network in 1997, eventually serving as executive vice president, business development FSN. In 2001, he was named COO for FSN. He also participated in the relaunch of the FoxSports site.

In addition, he sits on the board of directors for the Big Ten Network.

Before his association with Fox, Freer held posts at Turner Broadcasting, rising to executive vice president, entertainment sales.
