Facebook is defending its secret recent psychological test that manipulated the news feeds of 686,000 users. Unwitting test subjects had their news filtered so they either received more positive or
more negative updates. Facebook was keen to establish how this would affect each subject's mood when posting. Facebook has countered critics by saying it wanted to establish whether "emotional
contagion" exists and how it affects people.
