AOL Email Back After Friday Outage, But Some Users Still Complain

AOL is back running after an outage on Friday that affected users -- mostly on the East Coast of the U.S. But some issues apparently have continued into Monday morning.

Down Detector reports that “AOL is having issues since 7:55 a.m. Eastern Standard Time,” with 64% of the complaints addressing email problems.

“SMTP mail servers still not reachable in Silver Spring, MD. Since March 1st,” writes one user in a post dated Monay morning. “Pretty ridiculous considering there is still no notice or announcement from AOL (Verizon) anywhere on he web.”

“No mail here in Detroit, MI,” writes another, also on Monday morning.

AOL did acknowledge the issue, according to Express. On Friday, it tweeted: “We’re aware that service is slow/inaccessible for some of our users when trying to access AOL Mail. We are working to fix it as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”

On Friday, Express reported that thousands of users had been affected by an outage, but that the AOL Customer Support Twitter account tweeted to say service was restored.

Down Detector had received almost 5,000 reports of AOL being down, with over half concerning email, according to Express.

Email marketing messages presumably would not have reached those users at that time.

AOL also suffered outages in February, with U.S. users reporting problems, and in November 2017. Yahoo Mail, its sister service under Verizon’s Oath brand, has also had periodic problems over the last several months.
