Sinch Completes Pathwire Acquisition

Mobile communications firm Sinch has completed its $1 billion acquisition of Pathwire, an email delivery platform that includes the Mailgun, Mailjet, and Email on Acid brands.

Sinch paid $925 million in cash the sellers at closing, and will grant $1 million in new Sinch shares in two waves in February and May 2022. The sellers include, including funds managed by Thoma Bravo and Turn/River Capital.

Stockholm-based Sinch seeks to offer “a best-of-breed product set, across messaging, voice and email, that empowers businesses and developers to craft an unmatched, digital, customer experience,” states Oscar Werner, CEO of Sinch.

With this acquisition, Sinch’s annualized revenue run rate will be $2.3 billion, and the employee headcount will grow to 4,000, the company said when announcing the transaction in September.

The purchase -- coming just months after Pathwire’s own acquisition of Email on Acid -- establishes Sinch as a global CPaaS provider that can deliver services at scale across messaging, voice and transactional and marketing email, claims Werner.
