Tucker Carlson's Twitter Audience Down Dramatically

The audience for Tucker Carlson’s show on Twitter has dropped dramatically since its debut on June 6, following his ouster from Fox News in April.

Tucker’s announcement of his show launch on May 9 pulled 134.1 million views.

The show's first installment drew 120 million, the second 60.7 million, and the third 104.2 million, according to Twitter’s own data, cited by Newsweek.

By the fourth, fifth and sixth episodes on June 15, 20 and 22, views were down to 32.5 million, 17.4 million and 32.1 million, respectively.

The most recent shows for which data is available (June 28 and 30) were at 15.6 million and 8.8 million, respectively.

Carlson was pulling an average 3.3 million viewers per show when he exited Fox, per Nielsen.

However, the two metrics are very different.

As the report points out, Twitter states that it counts as a view "anyone who is logged in and views a tweet" — no matter where (home, search, profiles etc.), whether or not they follow the author, or how briefly, even if they just scroll past it. (Authors looking at their own tweets also count.) Meaning that the Twitter view counts include an unknown number of people who don’t actually watch Carlson's show, or follow him.

On Friday, during Russell Brand’s “Stay Free” podcast, Carlson said that he chose Twitter as an outlet because its lack of gatekeeping under the ownership of Elon Musk, and that he is not being paid for the show, although he would welcome payment in the future.

So the Twitter stats routinely and vastly overstate Tucker's current  actual audience while Nielsen's average minute ratings under-represented Tucker's  average hour's  viewership on Fox  ----which included  those who tuned in for at least five minutes---but were not necessarily "watching" per minute-----so much for media "audience" data.
