D2C Marketer Hims Enters Heart Health With Combo ED/Statin Pill

Hims and Hers, the D2C marketer of erectile disfunction (ED) pills and other health and wellness products, is now now combining those ED drugs with cholesterol-lowering statins as it enters the cardiovascular space with today’s launch of Heart Health by Hims.

“Clinical evidence suggests that ED can be an independent risk factor for developing heart disease,” Hims and Hers co-founder/CEO Andre Dudum explainsin an introductory video message, “potentially giving men a heads-up regarding future cardiovascular issues by as many as two to five years."

In what Dudum called “the beginning of a new frontier in precision medicine,” Heart Health for Men offers a “dual-action” daily pill for healthcare providers to prescribe -- and personalize for each patient. The medication combines statins (like rosuvastatin and atorvastatin) with ED medications (like sildenafil and tadalafil, the generic versions of Viagra and Cialis respectively.)

“Nearly six years of innovation in pharmacy, technology and clinical excellence has uniquely positioned us to help bend the curve of deaths caused by heart disease,” declared Dudum.

Calling the new pill “proactive treatment for life-threatening events like heart attack or stroke,” he noted that a quarter of deaths in the U.S. are caused by heart disease and that “30% of current Hims ED customers have one or more risk factors.”

Hims & Hers plans to “heavily invest and expand” in the cardiovascular category, Dudum said.

Heart Health for Hims partnerships were announced with Labcorp and the American College of Cardiology (ACC).

The brand’s customers will be able to schedule lab-based heart health testing at Labcorp locations, with the results then integrated directly into the patient’s Hims & Hers proprietary electronic medical record.

Heart Health by Hims will use clinical protocols based on ACC’s risk estimator, and the brand’s customers will receive access to resources and education materials through CardioSmart.org, ACC’s patient engagement initiative.

"If heart disease can continually be the top killer of all people annually, then the traditional healthcare system has clearly fallen short,” said Hims & Hers Chief Medical Officer Dr. Patrick Carroll in a statement. “We’ve been the trusted destination for hundreds of thousands of men seeking solutions for their sexual health, but now we can be a place for the millions who are at risk [for heart disease] and don’t know it.”
