Hyundai Teams Up With Georgia Tech For Research, Athletics Deal

As one of its investments in the state of Georgia -- which include building a new electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Bryan County -- Hyundai Motor Company announced a multi-decade research and athletics partnership with the Georgia Institute of Technology.

The partnership will include research to support sustainable mobility, a hydrogen economy and workforce development. In addition, the automaker gets field-naming rights to Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium, which will now be known as Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field. Hyundai will also sponsor gameday activities for fans, as well as programs for student professional development and cooperative work.

“Proximity to institutions like Georgia Tech was one of the many reasons Hyundai selected Georgia for our new EV manufacturing facility,” said José Muñoz, president and global chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor Company, in a release.

Hyundai is currently investing $5.54 billion to develop that facility, the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America, a dedicated electric vehicle and battery plant that will create more than 8,100 direct jobs. The automaker created a $120,000 STEM scholarship at Georgia Tech when it broke ground on the site in October 2022.

In a statement, Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera lauded the partnership as a chance to “shape the automotive industry and advance mobility in the future.”

Legends, a global corporate experience company, helped facilitate the Georgia Tech athletics partnership with Hyundai.
