The Sam Allardyce story puts the journalistic use of subterfuge under the spotlight once more. Was the "Daily Telegraph" right to launch what amounts to a sting operation to expose the England football manager? Without hesitation my answer, based on my reading of the newspaper's articles (and not on any extra inside knowledge) is yes.

Broadcasters could face tougher penalties and "harder-edged" regulation if they do not improve diversity, Ofcom chief executive Sharon White has said. White said the television industry has made some progress but is not yet doing a "good enough job" and that Ofcom will "look at enforcements" if the issue is not resolved.

The ad watchdog has recorded 14,500 complaints made by men, and 10,500 from women. It found that 59% of the objections from women are about harm and offence, whereas 35% of men complain about such ads. Meanwhile, 64% of complaints from men involved misleading claims, compared to 41% of women.

The supermarket group said yesterday that more than 130 years after it first offered home delivery via bicycle, it would do so again.

The Al Mana Group, which bought the BHS brand in June, has formed BHS International, a new company headquartered in London with 84 staff -- most of whom worked for the retailer before it went into administration. BHS.com will open for business in the UK on 29 September. It is being overseen by managing director David Anderson, a former executive at the old BHS group.

A legal case concerning the sale of video-streaming set-top boxes that can access subscription content for free begins on Tuesday. So-called "fully-loaded Kodi boxes" have gained popularity, but the legality of their sale is in question. Middlesbrough trader Brian Thompson is accused of selling equipment that "facilitated the circumvention" of copyright protection measures.

All users of the BBC's iPlayer service will have to log in with a personal account from early 2017. Users of BBC services can already create an online account -- known as a BBC ID -- but this is not currently required in order to access iPlayer. From Tuesday, BBC ID holders also have to add a postcode to their account information.
