• Newspaper Data-Pooling Project In Jeopardy
    Flaws in the viability of Project Juno have come to light with sources telling The Drum that two of the project's major publishers -- News UK and Northern & Shell --- have shown concerns as it pushes forward for completion in Autumn 2017. Of the six newspaper groups involved, some have more robust data than others, so giving away their crown jewels is a source of contention.

    Netflix has begun rolling out the ability to download videos from its streaming service to smartphones and tablets for offline viewing. Offline viewing is arguably the most demanded feature by users, and one of the things that differentiated other services including Amazon's Video streaming service and pay TV services such as Sky and Virgin.
  • Virgin Media Launches 4K Service
    Virgin Media has launched its first 4K TV set-top box, offering four times the resolution of high-definition broadcasts. The firm also unveiled a large tablet and an online store from which its UK customers will be able to purchase HD, but not 4K, content -- it had only sold rentals before. Its pay-TV rivals BT and Sky already offer 4K services of their own.

    News-sharing community Reddit is taking action against what it calls its "most toxic" users. Hundreds of members of the site have been identified, Reddit's chief executive Steve Huffman wrote. Specifically, attention is being directed at /r/The_Donald, a subreddit -- section -- of the site created and used by supporters of the US President-Elect.
  • Crispin Porter Splits With Turkish Airlines Ahead Of Global Review
    After winning the account in 2013, the agency had informed the client earlier this year that it would not be repitching ahead of a statutory review, which is imminent. The decision is not related to the agency winning American Airlines' global ad account last year. It is understood a pitch process will be run directly by Turkish Airlines global advertising manager, Rafet Fatih Ozgur.
  • Strong Publicis Figures Attributed To Sapient Purchase
    Publicis Groupe's acquisition of Sapient in February 2015 helped it to deliver the strongest growth in operating profit of the big six holding companies, according to data collated by Kingston Smith. The group's revenue rose 32.3% to GBP7bn. Kingston Smith said only a small part of Publicis Groupe's revenue growth was organic, and attributed most of it to the acquisition of Sapient.
  • Estee Lauder Pilots A 60-Minute Courier Service
    The Estee Lauder Companies will become the first major retailer to launch on Facebook's Messenger service in the UK. The beauty company is launching the mobile service along with a Christmas pop-up shop near its headquarters on Mortimer Street, London. It will mean that shoppers can choose an instant courier within 60 minutes' delivery across London.
