Publicis Groupe chairman Maurice Levy has fronted a New Year video tribute to his staff and clients for the eighth year running, taking the opportunity to poke fun at his own pending retirement. Levy is set to retire in May 2017, but it seems Publicis' removal men are over-eager in their duties as Levy's office disappears around him while he delivers his monologue to camera.

The number of people watching YouTube on TV has more than doubled in the past year, according to Matt Brittin, Google's president for EMEA business and operations. Speaking at the media owner's upfronts tonight, Brittin pointed to comScore figures which show that 18- to 34-year-olds in the UK are watching YouTube for an average of 45 minutes every day.

UK local and national newspapers generated some GBP5.1bn of revenue in 2015, around half the total of 2004, according to a new report. The analysis by Deloitte, carried out for the News Media Association, excludes the "Financial Times" but looks at all other national and local newspaper businesses in the UK.

Nordic airline Norwegian's "challenger mindset" will help it crack the UK market, according to Vice President of Marketing Stine Steffensen Borke. The brand is growing at a rapid rate in the UK alone, with nine new aircraft joining its fleet next year, paving the way for a 55% increase in flights from London Gatwick next summer.

Female marketing and sales directors are paid almost a fifth less than their male counterparts, new data by the ONS has revealed. While men on average earn GBP36.45 per hour, or around GBP75,744 per year, women make GBP30.20 per hour (GBP54,667 per year). And compared to men, only a quarter (26%) of women currently hold marketing and sales director roles.

C&C Group, the manufacturer, marketer and distributor of alcoholic drinks, has entered into a partnership with AB InBev to marry up their respective beer and cider portfolios across the UK and Ireland. The tie-up will affect some of the best-known brands in brewing, with AB InBev assuming responsibility for the sale and trade marketing of C&C's portfolio, including Magners.

There are more than 20 million paying subscribers worldwide on Apple Music just 18 months after the streaming service launched last June. The technology giant confirmed the milestone to Music Business Worldwide. In 2016 alone, Apple Music has added 10 million, while Spotify has accrued 12 million.

Coca-Cola's chief marketing officer Marcos de Quinto says TV spend remains "critical" to the brand, resulting in greater sales than any digital channel. Speaking at a Beverage Digest event, de Quinto added that the brand was trying to streamline its efforts in digital.
The Guardian
Campaigners and politicians have raised concerns over Rupert Murdoch's latest attempt to gain full control of the satellite broadcaster Sky, saying he must face a new "fit and proper person" test and competition investigation. It emerged on Friday that Murdoch's 21st Century Fox film and television group had made an GBP11.2bn offer to take full control of the broadcaster.

A discrepancy was identified for counting the use of like and share buttons, as well as the counts when you enter a weblink into the search bar of the Facebook mobile app. In a blog post released by Facebook today, it said: "We have found that there may be a difference between what these metrics count and what the mobile search query counts."
