Twitter has signed a deal with Dunnhumby, the company that created the Tesco Clubcard and now resells data from loyalty schemes. Using Dunnhumby's data, Twitter is hoping to prove a link between an advertiser's spend on the microblogging platform and its users' purchases, "Campaign" reveals.

The Open Rights Group claims to have leaked documents showing the UK government is planning to circumvent encryption through the provision of "back doors." "The Mirror" points out that this would allow the government to monitor communications across several messaging systems, such as a Whatsapp, iMessage and Telegram.

Facebook has deleted thousands of accounts linked to spreading fake news, "The Telegraph" reveals. The social media giant is trying to counter claims that it has done little about the growing problem and point to new technology it has unveiled which can automatically spot fake news.

George Osborne was accused of letting Google off too easily last year when it agreed to pay GBP130m in underpaid taxes, and today "The Telegraph" shows that was likely to have been the case. Google has just settled a similar case with the Italian authorities for double the amount -- GBP259m.
