Former WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar Joins Roblox Board

Former WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar has joined the board of directors at Roblox, the popular world building and online gaming platform, in an effort to expand Roblox into a more dynamic media and entertainment company.

Kilar has been a chief executive at media and entertainment companies for the past 15 years, most recently as the WarnerMedia CEO and, prior to that, the co-founder and CEO of subscription video service Vessel, which was acquired by Verizon in 2016. Kilar also spent time as the CEO at Hulu, which he helped co-found as well.

Kilar will be serving at Roblox alongside board chairman and company CEO David Baszucki, independent director Anthony P. Lee, former top TV executive Andrea Wong, and board members Gregory Baszucki, Christopher Carvalho, and Gina Mastantuono.

“I have long admired and cheered from afar as they leaned into the future,” said Jason Kilar in a recent statement. “Roblox is changing the way people come together and changing how creators can create delightful experiences for them.”

Roblox currently has 66 million daily active users across the globe, with its originally young user base now growing older. With 40% of its daily active user base above the age of 17, the company is figuring out ways to offer more content that caters to an older demographic, moving the company beyond a hub for kid-friendly games and into a more varied media and entertainment brand.

“We want to make sure that they can explore themes and graphics and things that would be very compelling for them,” Roblox Chief Product Officer Manuel Bronstein told TechCrunch in June.

The company also announced recently that Roblox will soon be available on PlayStation consoles and Meta Quest headsets, as well as Xbox, PC, iOs, and Android devices. In addition, the platform is considered a front-runner, alongside Epic Games, to build the metaverse.
