• Survey Says 7 In 8 Shoppers Unmoved By Emotional Christmas Ads
    Marketers are being given something to chew over this Christmas alongside their turkey following publication of a SurveyMonkey analysis of Christmas advertising campaigns, which found that just 12% influence consumer shopping habits. A massive seven in eight of those surveyed indicated that advertising camapigns held no sway over their purchase decision, insisting that quality and price were the determining factors in what gets boxed up under the tree.
  • Firefox Finds Mobile Ad Blocking Tied Down By Politics
    The company recently brought the Firefox browser to iOS for the first time, but has had to release a separate ad-blocking add-on for Apple's iOS 9. Called Focus by Firefox, the add-on works like most other ad-blockers, allowing users to avoid trackers on Web pages used for analytics, ads or social media -- except the add-on is only available for Apple's browser, Safari. This is due to the fact Apple doesn't allow content blocking for any browser other than its own on iOS 9, although it isn't clear why.
  • Unruly Names Android The Most Shared Social Video Maker Of The Year
    Android is the most successful social video brand of 2015, according to video ad tech firm Unruly. As part of Unruly's Video Sharing Awards, the brands that have been shared most over the year have been ranked. All awards are based on the number of shares across Twitter, Facebook and the blogosphere that each brand has accumulated over the year. This way it measures a brand's viral success more accurately than using the number of views each video receives, which Unruly claims does not denote social success.

    Seventy-two years on from the publication of Roald Dahl's first children's story, "The Gremlins," the marketers behind his brand have decided it needed a makeover to fit into the digital age of apps, Web sites and brand partner products. The Roald Dahl Literary Estate approached Sunshine to work on the rebrand. After learning that Dahl was a fighter pilot during the war and wrote solely on yellow paper, the agency created a yellow paper airplane as part of the new brand.
  • Unambiguous Consent For Data Enshrined In New EU Regulation
    The European Union has finally agreed on the text of its new General Data Protection Regulation after nearly four years' debate, with marketers forced to seek a "clear affirmative action" from consumers if they want to use their data. Marketers will be required to get "unambiguous" consent from consumers before using their data for marketing purposes, under new laws agreed upon by the European Union. Penalties for breaching consumers' data rights will also become harsher, with companies facing fines of up to 4% of turnover.
  • The Force Awakens In Brands As 'Star Wars' Opens
    When it came to building anticipation, Disney started early. It announced in August this year that it had signed up seven brands for what it calls an "expansive, historic promotional campaign." The brands -- which include Covergirl, Max Factor, Duracell, FCA US, General Mills, HP, Subway and Verizon -- are all developing custom campaigns for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Lucasfilm, which is the studio behind the film, says it chose the brands for their "excellence in their fields" and diverse global reach.
  • Pedro Avery Named Global Chief Exec Of Havas Sports & Entertainment
    Havas has promoted Arena's Pedro Avery to global chief executive of its marketing arm Havas Sports & Entertainment. He replaces Lucien Boyer, who has joined the media giant Vivendi. Avery will continue to be based in London. He will remain in charge of Arena and will retain the role of UK managing director of Havas Media Group.

    Twitter is launching its new Moments app in the UK today (15 December), showcasing how it can streamline the experience of using the social networking site. Available on Apple's app store and Google Play, the service aims to curate the best pictures, tweets, headlines and stories gathered from across Twitter for viewing in one handy at-a-glance feature. The service can be used to catch-up on the latest memes to rock the microblogging service or for keeping up to speed with favourite sport and news stories.
  • Bauer Becomes First Radio Station To Launch On Apple TV
    Bauer Media's Absolute Radio is set to become the first UK radio station to launch on Apple TV. The national radio station will have its own app on Apple's streaming platform, which launched its latest version in October. The app will feature all seven Absolute Radio stations and allows users to see who is on air, what's coming up and what has just been played.
