    Strong earnings from Amazon and a boost to the company's stock have made its founder, Jeff Bezos, the world's third-richest person, according to Forbes. Forbes estimated his fortune to be $65.3bn (GBP49.5bn). Amazon's revenue beat analysts' expectations, climbing 31% from last year to $30.4bn in Q2. Profit for the e-commerce giant was $857m, compared with $92m in 2015.

    Confidence among Britain's households and factories has taken a hammering since the vote for Brexit, raising fears of a national belt-tightening that could deepen any post-referendum economic shock. Pessimism has gripped the nation so severely that the GfK consumer confidence barometer suffered its steepest one-month decline in 26 years.

    JCDecaux has said the UK's vote to leave the EU may impact further on the already delayed rollout of London's new digital bus shelter screens. It won the Transport for London bus shelter contract last year and is tasked with installing 1,000 84-inch dynamic HC screens. It had already warned in May that at the beginning of April only 20 screens had been installed, instead of 300.
  • Sky Posts Record Operating Profit
    Sky has said the UK's Brexit vote is unlikely to hurt it financially as it reported that full-year operating profit rose by 12% to a record GBP1.56bn. Total revenues for the group rose by 7% to GBP11.96bn for the year to 30 June, as it added more than 800,000 customers.

  • Amazon Launches Its Dash Scanner In The UK
    The Dash scanner is different than the Amazon Dash button which, when pushed, will order items from specific brands, such as Gillette razors. The scanner contains both a microphone and an LED scanner. These allow shoppers either to scan grocery items to top up, or to add them via voice command. Consumers then have to log into the Amazon.co.uk site or app to complete their order.

    Groups that rely on European funding for tech projects have been told the money is "on pause" in the wake of the Brexit vote. An email warning about the funding freeze was sent to a large group of stakeholders by Coast to Capital, a group that allocates European funding around the southeast of England. It blamed the recent Brexit referendum and the change of government.

    There are countless reasons that app downloads have slowed to a crawl, from data restrictions to limited phone space to simple fatigue. "I think the novelty of the app itself has worn off," wrote Walt Mossberg earlier this month. "We've reached peak app." But part of the blame surely goes to the glut of useless apps now clogging up the app store, so brands must accept some responsibility.
