The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has revealed more goods are being bought by card than cash. The organisation has told The Telegraph this is largely down to the spread of contactless cards which are more convenient than cash for small purchases.

It will come as little surprise that employer groups are warning that implementing proposals in the Taylor Report on the gig economy would cost jobs. The CBI is a prime example, warning readers of The Times the suggestions would decrease the flexibility of the UK work force. The business body is instead suggesting the minimum wage is increased for people on zero hour contracts.

Spain's national airline, Iberia, which formed a partnership with British Airways in 2010, has been fined GBP22,000 for forcing female job applicants to take pregnancy tests. The Telegraph reveals the practice had been blasted on social media. An investigation dismissed the airline's explanation that the test was not designed to filter out applicants but place in them in suitable roles.
